What Is a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE)?
A Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE) provides 24/7 non-medical care and supervision for adults 60 years and older in a safe, home-like environment.
RCFEs serve as a supportive bridge between independent or assisted living communities and skilled nursing facilities. Many seniors may no longer have the level of independence needed to live safely on their own, yet do not require the continuous medical care provided in a skilled nursing setting. In these situations, an RCFE offers the ideal balance of personal care, supervision, and independence.
Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly are licensed as Community Care Facilities by the California Department of Social Services and are required to meet strict state regulations to ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of residents.
Services Typically Provided in an RCFE Include:
-
24/7 supervision
-
24/7 assistance with personal and supportive care
-
Assistance with self-administration of medications
-
Three nutritious meals daily, plus snacks
-
Housekeeping and laundry services
-
Coordination of transportation
-
Structured and recreational activities
